I got a free subscription from DeviantArt. Just 7 days, but still fun, isn't it? Getting a sub is kinda hard when you live in a country that is not recognized by PayPal, and all you have is debit instead of credit card. So, a free trial is something that I can really enjoy.
Sadly, nowadays I have two other addictions beside devArt and I couldn't stay here as long as, for example, a year ago, but still.
I could never find a full listing of all subbers content, so now I will make a list with what I've found and my opinion.
A list
Message center with thumbnails is something great. Thumbs, avatars and sorting by author makes using it real fun.
But there's no indicator of deviation category now in message center. So you can't see if this something is a downloadable icon for windows or just a screenshot of somebody's icon comission from mac.
And you got a star before your name!
Fully working gallery stats - very cool add-on. I remember when gallery stats were external and free-to-use for all, and I had great fun with them. Now, advanced features are restricted for subbers.
Page stats! In addition to gallery stats, you can get a fancy graph of your visitors count!
No ads - but who cares. I have a good adkiller and I didn't see ads even without subscription. No deviant notice on my devpage - were also cut by adkiller. Irritating summit ad is now only in my message center.
Big thumbnails in browse section. They are big and shiny, as they advertised. They also load ten times longer than little ones (what is with those dedicated severs?). But if they load, they are complete. No more missing thumbs.
No big thumbnails on a front page. Why is it so? Isn't it also some browsing interface?
You can set your thumbnails to appear in sets of 120 if you want to. On one page. With big thumbnails and their loading time, you can go and make some coffee before the page is fully loaded. Long time ago I used to use such a horrific number of thumbnails on one side (small ones, of course), and it was ok. But with big thumbs (aside the loading time) the page is getting too big and crowded. In my opinion, of course.
Journal options! Gee, who needs that anyway. Someone is really using devArt as a blogging site? There are thousands and more different blogging interfaces, all of them free of charge, and mostly giving way more stuff. Pools, forums, headers and html isn't really something big. If you want to blog, get a blog account and link it here. Why bother with not-so-good blogging interface on an ART site.
But there is one good blogging feature - thumbnails. Good. Great. Fenomenous. Give them to everyone!
Search. Not working at all ("Currently unavailable"). For what I do remember from those ancient times when search were available to all, not a big loss. Better use Google with hostname deviantArt.
Recent visitors and my friends modules in my devpage. I don't really see the point, but they can do no harm.
Deviant mobile - US only, so who cares.
And you can become a beta-tester and have a = before your name. I think * is more stylish and for a 7-day sub there is no point in beta testing anything, so I didn't turn it on and I can't say anything about it really.
Ah, and a subscribers forum! What a deserted place!
That's all for now. There will be nothing more as tommorow my free subscription ends. I didn't use thumbnails and headers in my entry. What a pity.
